Querious Help 5

The Connection Window

Get your bearings with the main interface layout fundamentals.

Everything you do in Querious happens in a connection window. A window holds one or more connection tabs (if you want), where each tab is connected to one server. You can open multiple tabs connected to the same server or different servers, and move them around between windows.

The Main Views #

A connection window has four main views, selected either in the window's toolbar, or with the Command-1 through Command-4 shortcuts in the View menu.

View What it's for
Content Browse, search, sort, and edit the data stored in your database — the rows in a table or view, or results from a procedure, etc.
Structure View and the structure of your database itself. Add or change tables, columns, indexes, keys, constraints, triggers, views, etc.
Query Write and execute SQL queries, with multiple editors, multiple result sets, saved queries, and history.
Server High level settings and status of the server as a whole — users, roles, variables, activity, locks, index usage, logs, extensions, replication, and more.

The Primary Sidebar #

One thing to note is that the Content and Structure views share the same primary sidebar on the left side of the window, which lists all schema objects on the server.

The primary sidebar is highly customizable to focus on what you're interested in.

Refreshing #

Querious caches a lot of what it gets from the server so that moving around stays fast.

Most every view in Querious uses caching of some kind, so sometimes (usually when something changes outside Querious) you need to poke it to notice the new changes.

In the Connection menu are multiple ways to refresh:

Refresh View Command-R Refresh what the current view is showing. Ex: Use this when the data you're looking at is stale.
Refresh Database Refresh the list of everything in the currently selected schema/database. Ex: Use this when a table was created outside of Querious.
Refresh All Refresh everything about the server. Ex: Use this when a schema was created outside of Querious.
