Filtering the Sidebar

Finding an object by name among thousands of them.

The filter field at the bottom of the primary sidebar narrows the list to objects whose names match what you type. It is the fastest way to find something when you know part of its name and nothing else.

What Gets Searched #

The small menu at the left of the filter field decides how wide the search goes.

Setting What it matches
Databases Schema names only. Use this to find a schema on a server that has hundreds of them, without the results filling with tables.
Everything Schema names and the names of every object inside them — tables, views, functions, procedures, triggers, and events.

The setting is remembered across connections, and the menu is hidden when the sidebar is focused on a single schema, because there is then only one schema to search inside.

Filtering With Grouping On #

When the sidebar is grouped by type or by name, filtering keeps the groups and shows only the ones that still contain matches. Groups that end up empty disappear, so a filtered list stays short even on a schema with several hundred tables.
