Server Variables View — PostgreSQL
The Variables view lists all PostgreSQL server configuration settings, as currently in effect, grouped by category. Superusers can edit them directly.
Reading the List #
Each row is one server-wide setting. The Variable column shows its name and explanation of its purpose. The Value column shows the effective value with units (ex: 128 MB), and an icon at the right edge shows when a change takes effect:
| Icon | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Read-only. Compiled into the server. | |
Requires restart. The change is accepted and written to postgresql.auto.conf, but takes effect only after a restart. |
|
| Reload. Takes effect after a configuration reload, not a restart. | |
| Superuser. You're a superuser and can change it; takes effect after reload. | |
| Superuser required. Your role lacks it, so the setting is read-only for you. |
Editing a Setting #
Click an editable value, change it, and press Return or Tab. PostgreSQL returns an error if the value is invalid.
- Reload settings are applied immediately — Querious reloads the configuration for you.
- Restart settings are saved, but apply only after you restart PostgreSQL.
Pending Changes #
The bottom bar reports:
- Changes Pending with a Reload Configuration button: settings written but not yet loaded. Click to reload the configuration (this applies only to settings that don't need a restart).
- Changes Pending — Restart Required: restart the PostgreSQL process yourself. Querious can't restart the server.
